Turning cooler and wetter this weekend...
THURSDAY EVENING
Following near-record heat, we’re settling in for the evening. We start with temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Thankfully, humidity isn’t an issue. Overnight lows hit about 55 to 61 with a few clouds drifting in from the west.
FRIDAY
Friday morning starts comfortably, but maybe not as cool as Thursday morning.
By the afternoon, highs reach 82 to 88 across much of the area, which is a few degrees shy of record warmth. Increasing humidity and rising air along the mountains will lead to the development of some showers and storms. These will start west of I-77 in the late afternoon/early evening hours before gradually drifting east overnight.
THE WEEKEND
Moisture increases Saturday, setting off some off-and-on rain. The heaviest/most widespread activity happens later on into Sunday morning, and most of that will be near and east of Roanoke. Sunday afternoon’s rain and storms look scattered.
Highs Saturday will be split between the 60s and 70s. Most of us reach the 70s Cinco de Mayo. Be checking back for updates on the weather, as we know there is a lot planned this weekend.
NEXT WEEK
Each day next week holds the chance for scattered afternoon and evening storms, in a pattern that’s more typical of summer. Lows will be in the 60s, and highs will mostly be in the 80s. Wednesday and Thursday afternoons could be hot once again, with highs around 85 to 90.
