At Smith Mountain Lake, the water level is sitting four feet below normal as of Monday, May 18. The drop is revealing more shoreline than beachgoers are used to seeing.

Due to the prolonged drought around Smith Mountain Lake, Appalachian Power Company is urging the public to be cautious in the area. Some boat ramps and launch areas may be inaccessible due to the low water levels.

If you’re looking to lend a helping hand, there are about 40 nonprofit organizations that you can give back to today on SML Gives Day.
