LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department is searching for answers after a man showed up to the ER Saturday night with a gunshot wound.
At about 4:24 a.m., officers were called to the ER after the 21-year-old man came to the hospital and appeared to have been shot in his forearm. It is unclear at this time if the man drove himself or was taken by an ambulance, but police have confirmed that the injury was not life-threatening.
Authorities say the man told them that he was in a parking lot near Vernon Street when he heard a gunshot and then realized he had been shot. But when officers responded to Vernon Street in connection to the incident, they could not locate a scene or any witnesses. We’re told that there weren’t any reports of shots fired that night either.
Due to the location of the incident, the University of Lynchburg Office of Campus Safety and Security was notified and responded to assist with the investigation. LPD says the man isn’t a student at the university.
We also reached out to university officials who confirmed no students were involved.
