LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg fire department has a new truck to help them in your time of need.
City leaders hosted a traditional ‘wet down ceremony’ Friday by hosing down the new engine with water from the truck it’s replacing.
They then pushed the new vehicle into the station -- commemorating the old horse-drawn system.
The 2021 model will serve the Boonsboro area. We’re told it comes with a larger tank and can pull more water out of places like swimming pools, rivers and ponds.
“It also comes with more hose because in a lot of the Boonsboro area of the city, there’s not ready-access to fire hydrants. Property is much farther away from fire hydrants than maybe in other areas of the city, like in midtown for example,” said Chief Greg Wormser.
The new truck cost about $660,000. The old one will be taken out of service and sold at an auction.
