Lynchburg fire captain files lawsuit against city alleging breach of contract, first amendment rights

Lawsuit filed in Lynchburg circuit court Thursday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Lynchburg fire captain is suing the city for “discriminatory employment practices and constitutional violations.”

Captain Martin Misjuns filed a lawsuit in Lynchburg circuit court Thursday, alleging breach of contract and first amendment rights.

Misjuns received backlash in January after he posted cartoons on a public Facebook page, that many called transphobic.

The lawsuit includes allegations that the captain has been denied opportunities for promotions and endured harassment and intimidation from department leaders over his political and religious speech.
