AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – Pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies were in high demand, flying off the shelves this week at Woodruff’s Cafe and Pie Shop.
The Amherst County business sold out ahead of Thanksgiving. They have baked more than 300 pies since Friday.
Owner Angela Woodruff Scott said that’s the most they’ve ever made this time of year.
She credits their popularity, in part, to their appearance on the Today Show back in February, and adds that what makes them stand out is their list of not-so-secret ingredients.
“The love and care that we put into them. We make sure that they’re fresh ingredients, real butter, real eggs. We make our pie crust from scratch. It’s just caring about what we do,” she said.
The business was not only celebrating Thanksgiving, but also a special birthday. Angela’s mother, Mary, is a staple at the shop and turned 104 Tuesday.
