Record warmth is possible on Monday!
Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day across the entire area filled with sunshine and warmth. Temperatures climbed well into the 80s and believe it or not, 90 is within reach for a few of us on Monday. Record warmth is possible to start the next work week with Roanoke and Lynchburg having the best chance to break the old numbers. Roanoke has to hit 90 to break the old record of 89 set back in 1915 (over a century ago!) and Lynchburg needs to get to 89 to break the old record of 88 set back in 1974.
Tonight: Mainly clear and mild with lows near 60.
Monday: Mostly sunny and arguably hot with highs in the upper 80s.
Tuesday will start dry with some sunshine, but after lunch-time, there will be a better chance for scattered showers and storms as a weak disturbance moves in from the west. It will remain quite warm (but not as hot) with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. A few lingering t-showers will be possible on Wednesday, especially towards Southside. Otherwise, we will see a mix of sun and clouds. Thursday will be dry with more sun than clouds in the forecast. Another chance for hit-or-miss t-showers returns to the forecast on Friday, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures mid-to-late week will reach the middle 80s. So we will be very warm all week long!!
A higher opportunity for scattered showers and storms will again enter on Saturday as a cold front moves through the area. Next weekend will start out partly to mostly cloudy and it will still be warm with highs in the lower 80s. Temperatures will remain in the lower 80s next Sunday and it will be a dry end to the weekend under more sun than clouds. So, looking ahead to next weekend: as of now, Sunday looks like the nicer than Saturday for outdoor activities.
