Weather authority alert day focuses on ice
ROANOKE, Va. – While we started this winter storm with snow, the primary concern tonight is ice accumulation across Southwest and Central Virginia. Most areas will see anywhere from 0.1-0.5″ of ice, but isolated higher totals cannot be ruled out along the southern Blue Ridge (portions of Roanoke Co, like near Bent Mtn, and parts of Floyd, Franklin, Montgomery, and Patrick Cos.). While the precipitation continues most of tonight, a break in the action may take place late tonight into Wednesday morning. But then more freezing rain/rain will move back in during the afternoon and evening hours. We’ll end this event with any lingering rain showers ending Thursday morning. Temperatures may actually creep up a degree or two Wednesday night.
Changing temperatures and weather patterns
Thursday afternoon looks to dry out. And Friday will be partly to mostly sunny. But another storm system will impact the area this weekend. The precipitation on Saturday may start out as freezing rain for a little bit before changing over to plain rain. And that chance for passing showers will continue into Sunday before ending at some point close to if not just after lunch-time. We’ll then see more sunshine on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Temperatures this weekend will reach the 40s and 50s, but we will turn colder next week with highs dropping into the 30s and 40s.
