ROANOKE, Va. – The trend of warmer temperatures is continuing into the month of February. However, a brief break will occur this week.

Mostly cloudy skies are overhead Monday morning, with temperatures warming hour by hour. So, your dog walking forecast is all good to go!

Skies begin to clear later Monday morning and eventually become mostly clear. Thanks to lots of sunshine and winds out of the south at the surface our temperatures return to the 60s in the afternoon.

Wednesday will be the coolest day this week as temperatures only get into the upper 40s and lower 50s. The reason? Cloud cover and rain!

Mostly cloudy skies move in Wednesday before rain showers start in the early evening. Isolated showers will continue into parts of Thursday.

The jet stream having little variability or movement in the north-to-south direction is why we have been so warm lately. This pattern looks to break down toward the middle of the month.

The Climate Prediction Center indicates colder air moving across the country later next week.
