ROANOKE, Va. – Warm temperatures and wet conditions will be on and off throughout the day as a few waves of rain pass over Southwest and Central Virginia.
Areal flood advisories are in place for Bland, Giles, Craig, Alleghany, Bath, Highland, Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties until Saturday morning due to the risk of flash flooding.
These areas still have a decent snow/ice pack, and the warm steady rain will melt what is still on the ground.
A break in the rain occurs later Friday morning and lasts through the early afternoon. A couple of isolated and light showers may squeak in during this timeframe, but some spots across the region will warm up during this time.
As indicated in our forecast high temperatures, areas in Southside will get into the 60s with the potential for a few spots to even get into the 70s!
Another wave of rain moves in later Friday afternoon and will last through the evening hours. Here is a look at 9 p.m.
Rainfall estimates are between 0.5 and 2.0 inches of rain for most. We are already starting to see rain totals near an inch and a half in parts of the New River Valley Friday morning.
A few showers may carry over into the early parts of Saturday, but skies begin to clear by sunrise. Lots of sunshine with breezy to windy conditions unfold for Saturday while cloud cover builds in for Sunday.
The start of February will feature warmer-than-average temperatures, and the Climate Prediction Center indicates warm temperatures may sneak into the mid parts of the month as well.
