ROANOKE, Va. – Snow showers are possible for the slopes and mountains along the NRV and Highlands Thursday thanks to a front moving in from up north.
Right around the time some of us see snow showers, the winds start to increase for all. The early afternoon will reintroduce gusty winds close to 25 mph.
As we head into Friday, an area of high pressure briefly settles in and brings warmer air to the region. Though it will be warmer, temperatures will still be below average for the time of year.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we are tracking our next weather system.
Saturday will start with a light mix, with snow, sleet and rain possible. Then we quickly transition to mostly rain across the region.
Cold air will be swung in from up north on the backside of this frontal system. Lake effect snow will develop and move into our western counties. Snow showers are also possible for the bulk of the Commonwealth throughout Sunday. A dusting to light accumulation is expected at this time.
