Upcoming snow showers
ROANOKE, Va. – Clouds will be on the decrease tonight and it will be cold. And soon, it will be time to keep an eye on an Alberta Clipper system that is expected to influence our weather. While it currently north of our region, this system will dive south and east, bringing some snow showers to parts of southwestern Virginia by late tomorrow afternoon into the evening (roughly 4p-11p). Areas including the west slopes and portions of the NRV and Highlands might see some action, with snow showers potentially bringing a light accumulation of snow (an inch or less). Not much will happen farther east in Lynchburg and Southside.
Temperature trends and cold front
Starting tomorrow, brace yourselves for more brutally cold weather, as temperatures will fall significantly below average. Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will only reach the 20s and 30s. We are not alone though as much of the country is quite cold.
Extended weather outlook
As high pressure moves in from the west, Wednesday through Friday all look dry under partly to mostly sunny skies. And as the week progresses, temperatures start to go back up, reaching the low 40s by Thursday and the upper 40s on Friday.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast suggests mainly just scattered rain showers on Saturday, which may transition to snow or wintry mix later Sunday into Sunday into Sunday night before ending. Expect Monday to bring clearing skies, with temperatures dipping back into the 20s and 30s.
