Recent snow showers and gusty winds
ROANOKE, Va. – It’s been a brisk day with snow showers primarily affecting the New River and Roanoke Valleys, but those have since ended. The winds have been quite persistent, with gusts reaching 25-40 mph throughout the day. Simply put, we had more sunshine east and more clouds to the west to start the weekend. Wind chills come early Sunday morning will be in the single digits and 10s, so please make sure to bundle up as you head off to church.
Sunday forecast: sunshine and milder breezes
A high-pressure system is setting the stage for a brighter Sunday...for everybody. Mostly sunny are on tap from sun-up to sundown. By Sunday, wind conditions should diminish to between 3 to 7 mph, occasionally gusting up to 10 mph, making it a much more pleasant day overall. It will be a dry end to the weekend...for everybody! But, it will be chilly.
Potential disturbances early next week
While most of the early work week precipitation (rain and little bit of freezing rain) looks to stay to the south of us, a couple of weak spokes of energy may bring the mountains a few light rain/snow showers on Monday, with may be a slightly better chance for a few snow showers on Tuesday. Farther east, you should be dry in Lynchburg and Southside. And then everyone looks dry under partly to mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and Thursday.
While we start the next work week off with temperatures in the 40s (warmer!), it will not last long. Another arctic air mass will move in on Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing temperatures again to fall into the 20s and 30s.
