ROANOKE, Va. – Wind chill remains an issue for the day as the cold air blast continues with gusty winds remaining in the region.
Winds peak around 20 mph but don’t fall off until late Wednesday. The wind is adding insult to injury.
The reason? Well, gusty winds are part of the equation that will cause the real feel to be in the 10s and 20s. Yes, the wind chill stays very low again.
The supply of cold air is plentiful! Thursday, and quite frankly the rest of the week, will bring below-average temperatures to the mid-Atlantic and portions of the Ohio Valley.
As we look ahead, we are monitoring two areas of low pressure: one to the north that is supplying cold air, and one to the south that is supplying lots of moisture. These two areas of low pressure interact with each other and bring us our next winter storm.
By Friday night, snow is beginning to fall across Southwest and Central Virginia. Snow will continue to fall through the night and into Saturday.
The current odds of seeing 1 inch of snow are 60% and greater for everyone. I do expect these odds to shift upwards in the coming days as newer computer model guidance and data come in.
