Beware of black ice tonight into tomorrow

Cold and windy tonight...feeling every bit like winter

ROANOKE, Va. – Well, we are about done with the first winter storm of 2025. But not before we saw several inches of snow fall (0-9″ to be exact) and a whole lot of icing (most folks between 0.10-0.50″, but some higher amounts). That front will leave behind in its wake a frigid air mass and strong winds. Because we are so cold, please be cautious of refreezing on area roadways tonight, especially the secondary roads. Wind chills tonight will feel below zero in the mountains and in the single digits elsewhere. BRRRR!

Future expectations

Tuesday to Thursday, the forecast calls for dry conditions accompanied by notably cold temperatures. We might see a few clouds lingering over the mountains early Tuesday and Wednesday, but by the afternoon, we’re expecting mainly sunny skies both days. It will be blustery out there, but that sunshine will be nice to see. Please bundle up!

Upcoming weather threats and considerations

Looking ahead to the weekend, there’s a storm system on our radar that could potentially arrive here late Friday into Saturday. This system might bring snow and a wintry mix to areas not usually accustomed to it, like Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock, with the possibility of up to 4 to 8 inches of snowfall before the winter storm gets to us. As for our area, we are closely monitoring any winter weather developments. As of now, prepare for the possibility of both snow and/or wintry mix, especially Friday night into Saturday. Sunday at this point looks dry.

Temperatures are forecasted to stick around the upper 20s and 30s throughout the next 7 days or so, with Thursday shaping up to be the coldest day. Stay tuned to Your Local Weather Authority for the latest updates, and feel free to share your weather pics and videos on our Pin It platform!
