Night-time forecast
ROANOKE, Va. – The day started off on a dry note with even a couple breaks of sunshine. However, as the afternoon progressed, it was overcast. And a cold front from the northwest brought with it some rain/snow showers. This clipper system will continue to affect the region into the evening.
It looks like the best chance for some snow showers will lie in the mountains. For those further east, any precipitation will likely be in the form of rain showers, though a few flurries aren’t out of the question. Any precipitation should be pretty light. There are indications that as midnight approaches, the precipitation will start to taper off...soon thereafter, skies will slowly clear out. But before that happens a light accumulation of snow is possible for some of the higher elevations through this evening.
Weekend weather and temperature outlook
This weekend, prepare for a drop in temperatures—Saturday will see highs in the upper 30s, while Sunday will be even colder with highs only expected in the middle 30s. This chill in the air is attributed to a reinforcing shot of cold air from Canada trailing the Clipper system.
Despite the cold, the weekend is anticipated to be dry with our fair share of sunshine. On Saturday, expect skies to gradually become mostly sunny, while Sunday will be mainly sunny all day long. Nevertheless, don’t let the sunshine fool you; it will remain quite cold...during the day and at night.
Christmas weather preview
With Christmas just around the corner, you’re probably wondering what to expect. Well, we’ve got your answer...temperatures will be in the 40s for the most part, alongside a 20 to 30% chance of spotty rain showers under mostly cloudy skies. While a White Christmas isn’t in the cards locally this year, a trip north to New England might fulfill those snowy holiday dreams. That is the spot closest to us where snow is in the forecast close to Christmas.
