Cooler air and clearer skies are on the way

Temperatures return to near average for the day with more sunshine.

ROANOKE, Va. – We are tracking cooler and sunnier days as we head into the weekend thanks to cold air funneling in from the northwest and an area of high pressure moving in!

Weather Headlines

High temperatures return to near normal Thursday afternoon. Most of us see temperatures max out around 50 degrees.

Today's Highs

The overall setup for the day favors lake effect snow for areas along the Great Lakes.

Today

Eventually, this area of moisture and cold air moves across the mid-Atlantic Friday afternoon.

Tomorrow

Here is a look at 4 p.m. Friday when isolated showers trek into Southwest and Central Virginia.

Tomorrow Afternoon

Because of the cold air moving in quickly, the rain showers turn to snow showers for the mountains and west-facing slopes. Some flurries will make their way into the Roanoke Valley, but snow accumulation (light) will be kept in parts of the NRV and Highlands.

Tomorrow Night

After the rain and snow showers, an area of high pressure settles in for the rest of the weekend. This will bring clearing skies, colder temperatures and gusty winds.

High Pressure

Winds will peak Saturday around 20-30 mph and then become lighter by Sunday.
