ROANOKE, Va. – The coming days will bring a mix, ranging from rain showers this evening to potential mountain snowflakes on Friday, along with a noticeable drop in temperatures.
Weather transition and rain showers
Wednesday started dry, but rain showers have arrived for some of us. These showers are linked to a frontal boundary moving through the area. Expect these showers to subside close to midnight. And the mountains will have a better chance for rain than the Piedmont. Although there might be a rumble or two of thunder, this front will essentially cool things down as we head towards the end of the work week.
Thursday sunshine and cooler temperatures
Moving to Thursday, expect cooler temperatures with highs in the upper 40s. It’s shaping up to be a dry day with skies turning mostly sunny quickly. There will be a light breeze too.
Rain, mountain snow showers, and the weekend cooldown
Looking ahead to Friday, a weak disturbance will stir hit-or-miss rain and mountain snow showers. The NRV and Highlands will have the best chance to see some snowflakes to close out the work week. Meanwhile, the weekend is calling for significant temperature drops, with highs only reaching the middle 30s both days. Saturday will see a mix of sun and clouds, but by Sunday, sunny skies are expected to prevail.
And of course, Christmas Day is just a week away! And right now it appears to be wet at times, with some passing rain showers in the forecast. Temperatures look to be close to normal with highs in the 40s to near 50.
