ROANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke Valley has reached 90° six days in a row. It looks like Friday will fall just short of that, though, thanks to an upslope flow and more clouds than we saw Thursday.
This may lead to a few sporadic evening showers from the southeast, but the better chance of storms comes Saturday afternoon and evening along a slow-moving front.
This front won’t necessarily cool things down after a few early showers Sunday. In fact, highs recover into the 80s and 90s.
It’ll stay steamy too, leading to a heat index of 100° or above around Lynchburg and Southside Sunday afternoon.

Humidity levels drop early next week, thanks to an area of high pressure overhead.
As the high strengthens, the heat makes a return to the forecast. We’re looking at highs well into the 90s by the 4th of July.
Being on the northern edge of the high, we’ll likely see some storms developing during the heat of the day.
