ROANOKE, Va. – Calm, warm days last through the end of the week. At the end of October, a front arrives bringing showers and wind on Monday, with cooler air through the middle of next week.
Highs reach 80 through the weekend, but behind the front highs fall down into the 50s. The rain this front brings is rather light, but the cool air lingers as November goes on.
High pressure, which has been keeping us mild for a while, will move south, allowing the next cold front to approach.
The front brings some sprinkles to West Virginia on Sunday, with better shower chances on Monday. We start to dry out for Halloween, with cool air rushing in to drag highs down to the 50s.
If you want to enjoy the warm weather this weekend, the calm winds help you out. Wind gusts pick up on Monday, but those gusts are calmer than some other fronts this season.
Low temperatures take a big hit after the front. Lows are in the 50s and even 60s over the weekend, but we fall to the 30s and 20s by Wednesday.
The cool air next week helps our leaves change color. Roanoke and Danville will get more and more colorful, while in Hot Springs, branches will begin to look more bare.
