ROANOKE, Va. – A disturbance that gave us a few showers late Wednesday into Wednesday night is still close by as of early Thursday. This starts the day off with clouds and patchy fog.
As the day progresses, however, we’ll see more of a mix of clouds and sunshine.
Afternoon temperatures respond to that - rising a few degrees more than they did Wednesday afternoon.
Friday will essentially be a repeat performance, with pleasant weather expected for playoff high school football games.
Farther west of here, the weather gets rowdy the next couple of days. Severe thunderstorms are forecast in parts of the Plains and Deep South.
Ahead of that system, an onshore flow will bring the chance for a few showers both Saturday and Sunday. We will not see any severe weather, as the storm will be much weaker and moving north of us.
That said, we will be turning warmer - both during the mornings and the afternoons this weekend.
In fact, Monday will feature near-record warmth with highs well into the 70s after starting in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Eventually, a northeast breeze will cool things off for us by mid-week.
The tropics, however, are not cooling off. Lisa made landfall near Belize Wednesday night, and Martin continues to race to the north.
There are two other disturbances with low chances of development within the next five days.
