False fall gives way to Summer’s Last Stand next week

Some parts of the area hit 90° next week

ROANOKE, Va. – It’s been a stretch of weather that fall fans have been craving - cool mornings followed by comfortably warm afternoons.

Our dry air mass keeps that trend in play through the end of the week, as afternoon highs Thursday and Friday reach the upper 70s and lower 80s.

We’ll turn warmer by Sunday, as a strong area of high pressure begins to anchor itself over the southern U.S.

Highs Sunday reach the low to mid 80s, but we’ll peak around 85 to 90° Tuesday through Thursday. Go figure...the first official day of fall is next Thursday, and we’ll be sweating!

Late Wednesday night, Tropical Storm Fiona formed just east of the Caribbean. If there’s any impact to U.S. soil, it wouldn’t be until mid-to-late next week.
