ROANOKE, Va. – March and April are (on average) the windiest months out of the year. March 2022 certainly proved to be that way, and April is getting a head start Friday.
Wind gusts will reach 30 to 40 mph once again between about 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Make sure to weigh down any empty trash cans, hanging baskets, trampolines, basketball nets, etc.
Contrary to Thursday’s gusty wind, the wind Friday is coming out of the west and northwest. This means we’ll turn much cooler with highs mainly in the 50s.
As the wind finally dies down overnight into Saturday, temperatures will crash. We awaken to temperatures in the 20s and 30s first thing Saturday morning.
This is a good reminder that our average first freeze doesn’t happen until mid-to-late April. There is still plenty of room for a few cold snaps this month.
Each afternoon this weekend will feature near-average temperatures. Highs reach the 50s in the mountains and 60s elsewhere. The only wrinkle in the weekend is more clouds late Saturday into early Sunday along with a few showers.
The best chance for rain moving forward arrives late Tuesday into Wednesday of next week, as an area of low pressure glides in from the Gulf.
Another batch of showers arrives Thursday before cooler air sneaks in.
