2016's Stop 7: Roanoke

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - On Friday, Jeff Haniewich and the Virginia Proud Weather Tour visited the Community School's Strawberry Festival.

2016 marks the 36th year of the festival.

"It's such a wonderful event. A great kickoff to the summer time and the festival season," said Nicole Cooper, the co-chair of the Chocolate Dipped Strawberries booth. "After long cold winters it's nice to be able to be outside and to eat strawberries."

Last year, about 20,000 people attended the festival.

For Michi Hines, the administrative director with the Community School and the director of the festival, it's her 24th festival.

"It's a time-honored tradition. I hear stories all the time, people coming from West Virginia, Pennsylvania with their coolers," said Hines. "They say they never miss it."

On Monday, the Virginia Proud Weather Tour will be in Floyd County at the Floyd Country Store.
