FORT MYERS, Fla. – A Florida woman says she had the shock of her life when she opened her garage door and came face-to-face with a 7-foot alligator. Torrie Heathcoat found the gator in the garage of her Fort Myers home Sunday night. “It was huge! His head was huge, his head was gigantic!” she says. Heathcoat said she had seen a gator swimming in a lake near their home earlier in the evening, and that her garage door was only open for a total of ten minutes before the gator was found hissing inside.

ROANOKE, Va. – UPDATE10 News spoke to the victim of the hit-and-run that happened in Roanoke Friday night. The victim said she and her boyfriend suffered minor injuries while her 6-year-old daughter got a broken nose and concussion. She also disclosed to 10 News that her vehicle was at a total loss from the hit-and-run and that the driver of the pickup hit her vehicle twice. ORIGINAL STORYRoanoke City Police are investigating a hit-and-run that happened Friday night. Police discovered a pick-up truck with front-end damage a few hundred yards from the scene.

BEDFORD, Va. – Police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing in Bedford on Monday afternoon. Ryan Crenshaw, 42, of Bedford, is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a 33-year-old woman at the Spirit gas station along U.S. 221, across the street from Longwood Cemetery, according to police. The woman was taken to Bedford Memorial Hospital and then police said she was flown to Roanoke for further treatment. Witnesses told police that Crenshaw was beating up the woman inside the car and then got out and stabbed her, according to police. One witness told 10 News that he heard the woman screaming and tried to help.

ORLANDO, Fla. – A pregnant Florida woman didn’t let labor stop her from casting her vote in the presidential election, refusing to go to the hospital until she filled out her ballot. Briceño González said she rushed outside to give the woman her ballot and check her ID. The staffer thought the woman would fill it out later, but while doing some controlled Lamaze breathing, the woman filled the ballot out right away. Elections clerk Eileen Deliz said the couple never mentioned why the woman waited until she was in labor to cast her vote. "Every election cycle brings us a great little story.”Officials said the woman’s husband later drove her to an Orlando hospital.

WYTHEVILLE, Va. Three people are safe after getting lost while hiking in Wythe County on Thursday night. A woman was hiking with her two children when they got lost while hiking on the Boundrary Trail in the Crystal Springs Recreation Area, according to Wytheville Fire & Rescue. While she couldnt get a strong signal, she was able to text her husband letting them know they were lost. At about 8:45 p.m., they found the family and 45 minutes later, they were able to exit the trail. Members of Wytheville Fire and Rescue, Lead Mines Rescue, Speedwell Fire Department and the Wythe County Sheriffs Office all helped with the search.

RADFORD, Va. – Police arrested Dennis Ray Blankenship with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service, according to the Radford Police Department. The Radford Police Department is asking for help finding the man they say attacked his estranged wife early Sunday morning. At 12:07 a.m., police responded to the 300 block of Fairfax Street after a woman called 911 to tell authorities she was attacked by 36-year-old Dennis Ray Blankenship Jr., of Bluefield, West Virginia. ROANOKE, Va. – A woman suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Roanoke on Friday morning. Shortly before 11:30 a.m., police responded to the intersection of Lynn Brae Drive NE and Orange Avenue NE to respond to the crash. That’s not too far from the city of Roanoke border with Roanoke County along US 460. Witnesses told police that she was a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle. First responders took her to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of what police said appear to be serious injuries.

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – A woman died Sunday afternoon after being rescued from the James River, according to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The rescue happened near Balcony Falls in Amherst County. She was found unresponsive after her kayak overturned and was taken to the hospital. While there, she was pronounced dead. Authorities are working to notify next of kin.

ROANOKE, Va. – A woman in her 60s is the first case of coronavirus in Franklin County, according to the Virginia Department of Health. While the initial release from the West Piedmont District only confirmed she lived within the district, Robert Parker with the health department later confirmed to 10 News that she lives in Franklin County. She is currently isolated at home and monitoring her health. “The Virginia Department of Health and our healthcare partners are working together around the clock to identify cases of COVID-19 in our communities and across the Commonwealth,” said Kerry Gateley, M.D., interim director, West Piedmont Health District. “We work to identify potential contacts of each case, assess their risk of exposure and recommend appropriate public health and medical measures, as needed.”

WALTERBORO, S.C. – A woman whose hands were crushed while she was changing a tire on the side of an interstate in South Carolina managed to call for help using her toes. A jack holding up the car slipped while the woman was putting on the spare tire, causing the woman's hands to get stuck between the tire and the fender, the release said. Over the next 35 minutes, officials said the woman was able to slide off her shoe, manipulate her cell phone and call 911. Fire-rescue crews were nearby clearing the scene of another incident and arrived in less than 10 minutes, the release stated. The woman suffered severe injuries to both hands and all of her fingers, fire-rescue crews said.

CNN – The body of a woman who had been missing for six years has been found in a New Jersey river, according to State Police Trooper Charles Marchan. The body was recovered from a submerged car in the Salem River on Thursday, Marchan said, and later identified as that of 52-year-old Vanessa Smallwood, who was last seen on January 27, 2014. According to a FBI missing persons poster, Smallwood was last seen at a dry cleaning business in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van. The Southern Regional Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy on the body, New Jersey State Police said. CNN has reached out to the Southern Regional Coroner’s Office for comment.
