The winter storm we’ve been forecasting is on top of us as we write up this article. The most snow accumulation will be from areas like Blacksburg, Roanoke and Lynchburg to the north. This may be your best chance of light snow accumulation in parts of the New River Valley. We still think the bulk of snow accumulation will be farther north. Higher totals will be possible in parts of the New River Valley, Roanoke Valley and near the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Regardless, an impactful and significant winter storm is likely in parts of our area Wednesday due to snow and ice. ROANOKE, Va. – Those born after December 9, 2018 have yet to experience an actual snowstorm in our area. On December 9, 2018, however, all of the pieces came together to give us one of our snowiest days on record. Snow totals of a foot to a foot and a half were common across the area, with Roanoke seeing its snowiest day on record .
