A group in Campbell County thatโs been advocating to build a new shelter for years created Bringing Animal Renovation to Campbell County (BARCC), a nonprofit to help with fundraising. The group believes the existing building isnโt as inviting or big enough compared to other shelters in the area, and leaders presented their plan to the Campbell County Board of Supervisors last week. County leaders said a new shelter is in the capital improvement plan for about $800,000, but thatโs still three years down the road. โOne new animal being brought into the shelter should not jeopardize the life of another animal thatโs already here just because of lack of space.

The Roanoke Rescue Mission is offering two options: socially distanced indoor dining open to the community and drive-through curbside service where you can take your Thanksgiving meal to-go. โA lot of our regular volunteers are seniors, theyโre retired and high risk for a variety of reasons. At RAM House in Roanoke, volunteers like Pat Oberlin, are prepared to pack to-go Thanksgiving meals and snacks, homeless individuals will be allowed to eat indoors. โYou can see it in their hearts that they really appreciate what weโre doing here for them.โFor these volunteers, Thanksgiving is about giving back at a time when people need help now more than ever.
