When Radford University first merged with Jefferson College, the goal was to create more opportunities for students looking to get into the medical field. When the plans for Radford University Carilion were announced about three years ago students had no idea that they would be preparing to be on the frontlines of a global pandemic. About 86% of Radford University Carilion students continue their medical careers in Virginia, according to Hemphill. Students are also looking at what happens after the pandemic, focusing on areas like expanding telemedicine or more research on respiratory issues.

Thirty states sent a combined total of 20,000 National Guard members to protect the government seat after the insurrection a week ago.

Now, ECPI University students in Roanoke are using eHospital to prepare for the frontlines. Think of eHospital almost like a video game for nursing and health science ECPI students. Ward said students started using the software last semester around late spring, now months later she explained she is seeing it benefit her students.

The parkway is now closed from Milepost 112.4 to Milepost 135.9, U.S. Route 24 to Adney Gap. Within that larger closure, a full road closure is in place from Milepost 121.4 at U.S. Route 220 to Milepost 135.9 at Adney Gap. In addition to that, there are two smaller slope failures that resulted in debris on the motor road at both Milepost 119 and 124. Geotechnical and roadway design experts will assess the roadway failures and make recommendations for repairs and restoration of access.

American Airlines is the only airline for the regional airport and has been canceling its flights the night before. To rescan on Sept. 11 at 12:30, select "scan" or "autotune" on the TV or converter box control menu to start the scanning process. While originally scheduled for Sept. 6, the date has since been pushed back to Sept. 11.
