ROANOKE, Va. – You have heard the saying “fight like a girl,” but one group of women wants to do more than that. Not allowing the disease to set the tone of their friendship, they decided to raise money to shave their heads. Ad“We really wanted to hit $10,000, that was our stretch goal and we hit stretch in 36 hours and we were like, ‘wow,’” said Cooper. They collectively raised $11,000, which is going to help build Roanoke Hospitality House, a home away from home for family members of hospital patients. “They actually in 36 hours made a donation to us that was greater than any one single donation we have ever received,” said Terrianne Julian, acting director of Roanoke Hospitality House.

“A healthy man walked in and now he’s fighting for his life.”After surgery, Worles kept bleeding. That’s when Pack found Terrianne Julian, the executive director of the Roanoke Hospitality House. When it’s built, the Roanoke Hospitality House will be a place where patients and their families can stay while they get treatment at medical centers in the Roanoke Valley. They’re raising money for the house and to put families up in local hotels in the meantime. Over the holidays, the Hospitality House is looking for help by selling ornaments to businesses and corporate donors for $1,000 and asking for any donations, even as little as $5.

“Nobody wants to say, ‘Yeah, you know, just take my leg.’ You know, you kind of grow attached to it. That’s when he found the Roanoke Hospitality House and its founder, Terrianne Julian. Terrianne said when it’s eventually built, the Roanoke Hospitality House will be an affordable and comfortable short-term place for folks to stay when their loved one is in the hospital or getting medical treatment in the Roanoke Valley. The Roanoke Hospitality House has raised $40,000 so far, but still, needs a lot more money and a namesake donor. Without the Hospitality House, “I wouldn’t be able to manage on my own.
