FRANKLIN CO., Va. – On Saturday the Franklin County Communications Center received a 911 call at around 9:00 pm alerting of a subject in the river in distress. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County Public Safety responded to the incident in the 5000 block of Brooks Mill Road. Rescue searches were conducted, but officials were unable to locate the subject and rescheduled the search to Sunday morning. Franklin County deputies and Public Safety responded. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

New River – Saturday morning the Independence Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a subject stranded in the New River. According to the Independence Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, upon arrival a Virginia Conservation Police Officer and the Galax Assistant Fire Chief had gotten to the subject and brought her to awaiting firefighters on the shoreline. The fire department encourages everyone to use caution as the river is still high and dangerous.

HENRY COUNTY, Va. - Festival organizers are asking for the public's help to support a local school district. The Wine by the River festival will be held Oct. 12 at the Smith River Sports Complex in Henry County. This year, the proceeds will go to Henry County Public Schools. This is the fifth year for the festival, but organizer Tanya Martin says a lot of people still dont know about it. The festival is hosted by the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation, a nonprofit created to honor local resident Matt Wade, who died unexpectedly in 2010.

Country singer Granger Smith's son River died in a drowning accident, but his organs are helping others to live. GEORGETOWN, Texas - The wife of country singer Granger Smith has revealed that they donated their late baby boy's organs and helped save the lives of two people after his death last month. There are so many people waiting for an organ to save their lives." "We told them River liked to go fast, so to honor him, they pushed him down that hall faster than they had ever pushed anyone. The couple have also donated more than $200,000 to Dell Children's Medical Center in Texas, where River received care before he died two days later.

Just a week after country music singer Granger Smith revealed that he and wife Amber decided to donate the organs of their 3-year-old son, who died in a drowning accident in the family's pool, Amber revealed that the little boy helped save the lives of two adults. Amber shared the heartbreaking details of little River's death and the aftermath of his passing. She recounted the moment she and her husband made the decision to create something good from River's death. River's death came almost a year after Olympic skier Bode Miller's little girl, Emmy, drowned in a neighbor's pool.
