Each year, Laurel Turner works to donate bulletproof vests to local law agencies to help ease the pressure of tight budgets.

K9 Rico with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is officially retiring after six years of service.

Four local law enforcement agencies have K9 units competing for the 2022 Aftermath K9 Grant.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – A brand new police obstacle course is ready for Roanoke County’s K9 officers. Spike’s K9 Fund finished building the course behind Roanoke County Police headquarters on Saturday. Roanoke County Sgt. Tony Ayers, who handles a K9, says the course will immensely help K9 officers prepare for situations in the line of duty. It’s a beautiful thing.”Ayers said Roanoke County will open up the course to other K9 officers and first responder dogs in the region.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – The Roanoke County Police Department now has a dedicated place to teach its dogs new tricks. An obstacle course for the department’s K9 officers started taking shape behind its headquarters Friday. The course came from Spike’s K9 Fund, a Virginia Beach-based organization which provides for K9 officers across the country. Founder James Hatch donated the course to Roanoke County at no cost to taxpayers. “That’s whether it’s an agility course like this, bulletproof vests -- we’ve provided bulletproof vests for all of the dogs here in Roanoke County -- or medical attention if they need it.”Hatch and other volunteers will complete construction of the course on Saturday.

(CNN) - Two men who were stopped in a truck containing 420 pounds of marijuana are under arrest, thanks to Connecticut State Troopers and a K9 unit that's winning praise for sniffing it all out. The truck was stopped Friday while it was headed southbound on Interstate 95, in Darien. The two suspects, 23-year-old Vahe Manjikian and 27-year-old Kevin Conrado of Los Angeles, have been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
