LEXINGTON, Va. – A local family finally has answers after a woman’s remains found in a landfill in 1986 were recently identified as their loved one. More than 30 years ago, the two left their Lexington group home to find their mother in Richmond. MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Henry County Police are investigating a death after they say they received a call in reference to an individual slumped over in a car behind The Scrub Board Laundry, located at 2038 Rives Rd., in Martinsville, Virginia. Upon arrival deputies located a deceased individual inside of a 1999 Honda Odyssey van. Henry County Sheriff’s Office investigators processed the car and conducted a cursory search of the immediate area. The body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia for an autopsy.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A Franklin County official has confirmed that someone died near Smith Mountain Lake on Saturday. The county’s public safety director, Billy Ferguson, said that the fatality happened near the area of Belle Isle Road and believes it was a wakeboarding accident. WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – A Wythe County woman is in the hospital and her husband is behind bars after investigators say he shot her during an argument. The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office received a call to 357 Lone Ash Road in Barren Springs, Virginia in reference to a domestic situation around 8:40 a.m. on Saturday. Wythe County Sheriff’s Deputies and Virginia State Police arrived to find Kelly Tolbert with a gunshot wound. She stated her husband Joseph Tolbert shot her with a shotgun. Joseph Tolbert was on scene of the incident.

AP – Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help to find a vehicle involved in a shooting on Interstate 64 that left a 34-year-old woman hospitalized. In a news release, police said that at about 10:10 p.m. Friday night, a white Dodge Stratus and a silver Ford Flex were heading north on Interstate 95 at the I-95/I-64 Bryan Park interchange when the vehicles began “engaging in aggressive driving.”As both vehicles took an exit ramp, the driver of the Dodge fired several shots into the rear of the Ford. The Dodge then pulled up along the passenger side of the Ford and the driver continued firing into the Ford. Police said the two vehicles made contact at one point, before the white Dodge Stratus fled the scene

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police Trooper T.M. Wertz is investigating a two vehicle crash which resulted in a fatality. According to State Police, the crash happened Friday, at 10:53 p.m. on Route 460, two tenths of a mile west of Dixie Lane in Bedford County. Police say a 1993 Toyota Corolla was traveling east in the westbound lanes on Route 460, when the vehicle hit a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu head-on. According to police, he was wearing his seat belt and was transported to Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating a malicious wounding that occurred Saturday afternoon. Just before 4:00 p.m., a juvenile male arrived at Lynchburg General Hospital with a gunshot wound that he reportedly received on D Street near Norwood Street. The gunshot wound is considered non-life threatening at this time. The LPD has not responded to any shots fired calls this afternoon. This is an ongoing investigation.

BLAND COUNTY, Va. – State police continue to investigate after a man was found dead on Saturday in Bland County. The body of 57-year-old Bruce Ritchie, of Pennsylvania, was found in a ditch along Wilderness Road, according to Virginia State Police. Authorities were notified just before 12:30 p.m.Ritchie had been stabbed outside his vehicle, according to state police. Wilderness Road is Route 606 and is Exit 62 off I-77 in the South Gap community of Bland County. DANVILLE, Va. – According to the Danville Police Department, an armed robber entered Junior’s Convenience Store located at 623 Worsham Street just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The robber stole tobacco products and an undisclosed amount of cash before running away from the scene. According to police, the clerk was unharmed. The robber was wearing white shoes, black pants, and a black hoodie. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. – Rocky Mount police say they are investigating a death that happened in the North Main Street area late Friday night. The man was taken to the Western Virginia Medical Examiner’s office in Roanoke for autopsy. Investigators say they are expected to receive the official report later this week. The man’s name and address will not be released until next of kin is notified.
