The Sheriffโs Office said autopsies were completed by the Medical Examinerโs Office and the case is being treated as a murder-suicide. ORIGINAL STORYAuthorities in Giles County said there is no threat to the public after two people were found dead with gunshot wounds on Christmas Eve. The Sheriffโs Office said the medical examiner is completing an initial investigation.

Giles County issued a Code Red Emergency Alert on Thursday night as the New River rose. At 10:30 p.m., the river was at 18.23 feet, which is considered major flood stage. By 2 p.m., its forecasted to dip back to moderate flood stage, and by 8 p.m., the river is expected to down to minor flood stage. For reference, the October 12, 2018 flood crested at 19.47 feet. Several low lying roads such as Jason Circle and Lurich Road have already been inundated in the county.
