Anxious and angry parents who were reunited with the girls after six days of waiting grabbed their daughters and left after shots rang out. The girls, aged 10 and up, had been abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe in Nigeria’s northwest Zamfara state and were released Tuesday after negotiations. Following the kidnappings, the Zamfara state government announced a curfew, which remains in force. In December, 344 students were abducted from the Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State.

"When we're home and playing in front of our parents and the boys team, we want to be able to show we can put on a quality soccer game and really deliver," explains Blacksburg girls coach Travis Eschenmann. We just want to prove the girls team is here and we think we did that last year," says Phillips. The boys look for their 13th state title, the girls are in the hunt for a repeat. The girls take on an undefeated Lord Botetourt team on Wednesday in the Regional semifinals.
