Virginia Beach Animal Control said in a new release the animal was found killed Tuesday morning in the Pungo area of the city. Animal Control said that a necropsy is being conducted and the case is under investigation. Owner Charlie Grimstead said the dog had been stabbed, according to The Virginian-Pilot. The newspaper reported that Grimstead said on Facebook that the dog was found in her pen but that he believes she was killed elsewhere and someone put her back in the pen.

A couple found Cletus on the side of the road in Pulaski last week. The dog was taken to the animal shelter for treatment, then sent to Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge near Charlottesville to get more extensive work. Don’t let them suffer because there is people across the state who can help with these situations,” said Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge Founding Member Kimberly Hawk. More than 50 poultry and other animals were also seized, the sheriff’s office said. The agency didn’t specify how many animals were dead but said a deceased dog was transferred to the Fauquier Health Department Agriculture Laboratory for a necropsy. Animal control officials in Baltimore County, Maryland, initially contacted Fauquier County Animal Control when a caller reported that a dog showing signs of “prolonged neglect” had been left unclaimed at a veterinary clinic in Maryland, news outlets reported. Irina Barrett, 41, of Broad Run was charged with felony cruelty to animals resulting in death and misdemeanor neglect of companion animals, the sheriff’s office confirmed.

A deputy with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office was responding to an animal cruelty call and discovered the dogs in a wooded area in Mechanicsville, Maryland.
