A Liberty High School teacher was also recognized, as well as two students from Jefferson Forest High School. From Roanoke Co., Northside High School was recognized, as well as a Life Counselor at the school.

The Youth Of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety Organization (YOVASO) is encouraging teens to make good choices and celebrate responsibly by carving pumpkins with safety messages this year. Organizers say since the holiday falls on a weekend more people on the road are at risk. There is a contest for the best pumpkin which ends on Halloween at midnight. For more information, click here.

Youth of Virginia Speak Out About Traffic Safety, or YOVASO, is in the running for a $25,000 State Farm Neighborhood Assist Grant for its After Prom Grand Finale Event. This grant is especially important right now, as fundraising efforts for YOVASO have taken a big hit during the pandemic. “We’ve saved over 85,000 lives in 31 years. This money is important because it’s going to allow us to keep continuing our event and save even more lives,” said Becky Parr, After Prom Grand Finale coordinator.

They will talk about a proposed state constitutional amendment which creates a redistricting commission to use census data to redraw congressional and state legislative districts. It will vote on leaving Wednesdays as Virtual Learning Days with the other days of the week being A-B days, through December. It could also vote to allow those doing all virtual learning to return to school on October 19th, instead of waiting for the second semester. The board will also hear about plans to make snow days virtual learning days.
