Ekh connected on 6 of 9 from the floor and hit five 3-pointers for the Hokies (25-7), who set a school record by winning their 26th consecutive game at Cassell Coliseum. Abby Beeman scored 12 points for Marshall (26-7), which saw its 10-game winning streak snapped.

It was the fifth straight win over the Panthers for Kenny Brooks’ club. LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg lady Hornets went 13-14 overall last year, but head coach Katie Crump says maturity and experience will be the catalyst in games this season. “We’ve got so much experience coming back, we did lose a few,” Crump said. Another asset Lynchburg possesses is length and versatility, which was on display in Saturday’s opener. “What’s really cool about our team is really versatile, anywhere on the court we have assets that can knock the ball down,” Quarrels said. And while 2021 started off with a close loss to Bridgewater, they know the energy will carry them far.

RADFORD, Va. – Ariel Williams scored a career-high 25 points Friday night but visiting UNC Asheville defeated Radford in a high-scoring affair, 84-80, inside the Dedmon Center. UNC Asheville upped the defensive pressure out of the break, forcing five Highlander turnovers in the first three minutes of the frame. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (0-4, 0-1 ACC) opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 71-55 loss to Clemson (6-0, 1-0 ACC) on Thursday (Dec. 10) at John Paul Jones Arena. Redshirt sophomore guard Amandine Toi (Paris, France) scored a career-high 23 points, going 5-of-9 from three-point range. Clemson went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter to build up a 43-27 lead at the break. Clemson mounted a 12-2 run to build back up a 69-52 advantage, a run ended by another and-one from Lawson. They played hard, they go downhill, they play a lot of people and we don’t have a lot of people to play.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women’s basketball team has announced its revamped 16-game league schedule for the Lady Flames' third season of ASUN Conference play in 2020-21. The Lady Flames' conference-opening road swing will take them to Stetson (Jan. 2) and ASUN newcomer Bellarmine (Jan. 4). For the second year in a row, the Lady Flames will head to Kennesaw State for their regular-season finale, March 1. Active StreaksThe Lady Flames will enter ASUN play with their longest conference winning streak during two seasons as a conference member. The Lady Flames have defeated eight straight ASUN opponents overall, also including the 2020 ASUN Championship triumphs over Kennesaw State and North Alabama.

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:___Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell says shortstop Luis Urias and pitcher Angel Perdomo tested positive for COVID-19 before the intake process. This marks the second setback for Urias since the Brewers acquired him from San Diego in November. Major League Baseball and the players association announced Friday that 31 players and seven staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during intake for the resumption of training, a rate of 1.2%. Players and staff were tested Friday, and general manager Mike Rizzo says the team still hasnt received its results. The WNBA hopes to start training camp later this week, with the regular season set to begin around July 24.
