The flag-draped casket of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, carried by Supreme Court police officers, arrives in the Great Hall at the Supreme Court in Washington, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020.
During a 2017 Rosh Hashana visit to a historic synagogue in Washington, Ginsburg told worshippers she believed being Jewish helped her empathize with other minority groups.
โThe Jewish religion is an ethical religion.
The demand for justice, for peace, for enlightenment runs through the entirety of Jewish history and Jewish tradition,โ she said at the award ceremony.
Ginsburg understood what it meant for people to be excluded and โotheredโ and fought against that, said Sheila Katz, CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women.
