Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren was indicted Friday on charges she broke campaign finance rules and committed fraud during her reelection campaign three years ago, adding another layer of crisis in a city that has been reeling over its handling of a police killing. Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley also announced charges against Warren’s campaign treasurer, Albert Jones Jr., and the treasurer of her political action committee, Rosalind Brooks-Harris. The Democrat is midway through her second term as the first female and second Black mayor of Rochester, a city of more than 200,000 by Lake Ontario. Elections officials began fielding complaints about Warren's campaign finances in 2017, when Warren defeated two challengers in a Democratic primary prior to her reelection. “Lovely Warren is still the mayor of the city of Rochester,” she said.

Frederick told Judge Michael Chupa that he wanted Eddie and Candace Hall to forgive him, though he didn't specify what he did to make him seek their forgiveness. Outside, they discovered the swastika and found that someone had written “terrorist Black Lives Matter,” “not welcome” and a phrase containing an expletive on their pickup truck. A neighbor’s home surveillance video showed a masked and hooded man carrying what appears to be a handgun outside the Halls' home.

Naked except for spit hoods in a reference to the killing of Daniel Prude, several protesters sat outside Rochester's police headquarters Monday morning to push for police accountability, local news outlets reported. Seven police officers were suspended Thursday, and state Attorney General Letitia James said Saturday she would form a grand jury and conduct an "exhaustive investigation into Prude's death. Warren and Police Chief LaRon Singletary have faced calls for their resignations over the delay in releasing details of Prudes death. Protesters gathered in a Rochester park Monday evening before moving to the city's Public Safety Building by nightfall, for a sixth consecutive night of demonstrations. On Sunday, police said more than 1,000 protesters marched to the Public Safety Building on a night more peaceful than the rest, with community elders acting as a buffer between officers and protesters.

Warren suspended the seven officers involved in Prude's death last week after his family released police video from the March night when he was restrained on a city street. "The mayor and RPD must stop these warfare tactics now.The marches took place as New York's attorney general announced Saturday that a grand jury would investigate Prude's death. Protesters have called on Warren and Singletary to step down over the delay in releasing details of Prude's death. They've also demanded police accountability and legislation to change how authorities respond to mental health emergencies. But she said the city will double the availability of mental health professionals and work with Rochesters Commission on Racial and Structural Equity, or RASE, to re-envision the police department and how it responds to mental health crises.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren announced the suspensions at a news conference Thursday amid outrage that city officials had previously kept quiet about Prude's death. Journalists were among those hit by pellets during the confrontation, which came on the second day of peaceful demonstrations over Prude's death. The mayor said she only became aware that Prude's death involved the use of force on Aug. 4. "Home for Good" is done in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley and generous community sponsors. “It feels really good in light of all the, kind of the bad news that we’ve all been surrounded with lately, it feels really great to come together and celebrate something that gives us a little dose of joy,” said Karen Mason, Habitat’s Executive Director, during Friday’s wall-raising celebration. Mayor Sherman Lea of Roanoke said it is the Roanoke way for everyone in the community to pitch in and help each other. Work on the home as a part of this year’s “Home for Good” project was originally scheduled to start in early April, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the start of construction.

Bloomberg didn't automatically revoke the agreements, but told the women to contact the company if they would like to be released. The three agreements he’s willing to open up relate specifically to comments he’s alleged to have made. One of the women covered by Bloomberg's announcement is Sekiko Sekai Garrison, 55, who filed a complaint against Bloomberg and his company in 1995. Josephs said she was then told that Garrison had settled the case against Bloomberg for a “six-figure sum” and signed a nondisclosure agreement. A longtime Bloomberg aide confirmed that case was one of the three agreements Bloomberg mentioned in his statement, in which an NDA was signed that directly related to Bloomberg.

Health care is one of the biggest issues for the union, whose members have fought and negotiated for robust plans. The Culinary Union's leaflet does not name Warren or Sanders or cite Medicare for All, but it reflects some of the arguments both candidates have made. Culinary Union spokeswoman Bethany Khan said the leaflet is not a sign of whether the union will endorse and said the union is not organizing against any candidates. Warren says that, far from having boxed herself in politically, she's been working on her health care plan for months and still sees it as a winning issue. "You're going to get health care with no premiums, no deductibles, no fear of bankruptcy if you have a health emergency." Sara Collins, vice president for coverage and access with the nonpartisan Commonwealth Club, said the key involves changing how the health care tab is divided up among employers, government and individuals. Unlike Warren, Sanders has already released payment options, including higher taxes on wealthy Americans and an employee payroll tax of 7.5%. But that would give federal authorities more control over employee health costs than employers, potentially affecting jobs.

The Warren Technical center, in Warren, Michigan, which is made up mostly of engineers, voted 85% in favor of the deal. It also passed easily at a metal stamping plant in Saginaw, Michigan, and a transmission plant in Toledo, Ohio. The tentative deal reached last week would pay members an $11,000 signing bonus and raise hourly pay for veteran workers 6% over the life of the contract, to $32.32. The deal also will allow many temporary workers to become permanent employees, which will significantly improve their pay and benefits. And the union got GM to drop its demand that workers pay a much greater percentage of their own health care costs.

The Detroit-area plant is one of five in North America that GM last year announced would suspend operations as part of the company's business transformation. The Warren plant opened in 1941 and has been operated by GM since 1958. "We appreciate their commitment and hard work to build the highest quality possible into each and every transmission produced at Warren Transmission Operations," GM said. GM describes the plant of being "unallocated," meaning the plant isn't completely shutting down for now.
