Purple Heart recipients also gathered around Monument Terrace to celebrate National Purple Heart Day and take a picture. ...Were trying to show our support for even those that are coming back today that are wounded, or even those that gave their time for service to our country, said Lynchburg veteran Gary Witt. The group said that on Friday night, the Bank of the James and Liberty Universitys Freedom Tour will be lit purple for Purple Heart veterans.

Church bells filled the air for the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, the day World War II officially ended in Europe. 19 men from Bedford, known as the โBedford Boys,โ were killed while storming the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. The National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, which itself commemorated the 75th anniversary of D-Day last year, had planned a parade in town for V-E Day. Although the parade has been canceled, National D-Day Memorial President April Cheek-Messier said the bells still illustrate the significance of this day.

Lee was able to park but had no one to help change his tire. It took Howard about 15 minutes to change the tire.
