Here is a list of events:Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, 10:30 a.m. in LexingtonMartin Luther King Jr. Lynchburg Community Councilโs virtual celebration at 1 p.m. Live streamed on Facebook and Instagram from the Academy Center for the Arts. Virginia Western launched a virtual day of service where students create messages for seniors, active members of the military and veterans. The day also features a series of virtual events and discussions including a keynote speech by Dr. Judith R. James.

Read full article: You can get up to $3,000 to go to a Virginia community collegeIf youโre unemployed and underemployed and impacted by the pandemic you can claim the tuition funding through Governor Ralph Northamโs Re-Employing Virginians (REV) to attend community college. The REV initiative provides scholarships to enroll in a workforce or community college program in five essential industries including health care, information technology, skilled trades, public safety, and early childhood education. The initiative will provide one-time REV scholarships of $3,000 to register in a qualifying full-time degree program and $1,500 to register part-time or in quicker, career training courses. Virginia Western Community College is giving REV funds to students on a first-come, first-served basis and say thereโs plenty of money left. As of Thursday, a VWCC spokesperson says they had enrolled 119 students and expended $196,594 of the allocated $1,105,410 available in REV funding specific to the college.

Read full article: Roanoke cyclist raises concerns about safety of Colonial AvenueROANOKE, Va. - Construction on Colonial Avenue near Virginia Western may be a headache for drivers, but for cyclist Edward Cake it has proven to be downright dangerous. After months of unsuccessfully trying to get the contractor to refill the grooves, Cake reached out to 10 News. "I think what they have planned is going to be a pretty nice thing, a lot safer for cyclists later." Dangerous, he says, not just for the cyclist but for drivers, as well. The construction on Colonial Avenue is expected to be complete in January 2020.
