New study finds certain parts of Virginia are more susceptible to tornadoes than others
The terms โTornado Alleyโ and โDixie Alleyโ may be familiar to some of you. The ODU study set out to determine if Virginia has its own tornado alley. The study looked at a few factors: tornado frequency, tornado track and percentage of mobile homes in a given area. Thereโs a primary โTornado Alleyโ in eastern and northern Virginia that includes Richmond, the Tidewater and the D.C. metro area. Although there are not as many mobile homes in those areas, the tornado frequency and track is higher than other parts of the viewing area.

EVERGREEN, Va. โ Wednesday marks five years since a violent tornado with winds up to 145 miles per hour tore through Appomattox County, leading to one personโs death and several othersโ injuries. Tornado warning expired for parts of Franklin, Henry, Patrick counties
RONAOKE, Va. โ The National Weather Service has expired a tornado warning for parts of Henry, Franklin and Patrick counties. The warning was originally set to expire at 3:45 p.m. This warning effected north-central Henry County, Southwestern Franklin County and Northeastern Patrick County. At 3:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Endicott, 7 miles southwest of Ferrum, moving east at 10 mph.
National Weather Service rates Botetourt County tornado an EF0
FINCASTLE, Va. โ On Tuesday, the National Weather Service announced the rating for the tornado that touched down in Botetourt County on Saturday. Your Local Weather Authority was on the air Saturday evening after the National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a tornado warning for parts of Botetourt and Rockbridge counties. A day or so later, the National Weather Service fielded calls of damage to trees on a property near Lee Lane. Monday, a crew went to survey the damage and found that the damage was consistent with that of a tornado. Her neighbor is a weather spotter and sent photos of the damage to the National Weather Service.
