The European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service, which analyzes temperature data from around the planet, said October 2019 was the warmest in their data record, which goes back to 1979. Last month narrowly edged out the previous record for October, set in 2015, by only 0.01 degrees Celsius (0.018 degrees Fahrenheit). This year has seen multiple other hottest-month records, including July, which Copernicus said was the warmest month of all on record, replacing the record set in July 2016. Every month in 2019 has ranked among the four warmest for the month in question.

We're a little breezy at times Monday and Tuesday, as a weak front passes toward the north. We're mostly looking at a few showers late Thursday night into early Friday morning. It's at this point that some of the coldest air of the season marches into the area. As the wind calms down and the sky remains clear Friday night, temperatures will begin to plummet into the 20s by early Saturday morning.

You just might need the long sleeves for later in the game, when temperatures drop into the 60s. The jet stream is in the process of lifting back to the north, though, meaning that some hotter air will return fairly quickly. Expect highs in the low to mid 80s Saturday and mid to upper 80s Sunday, with only a couple stray showers west of the Parkway Saturday afternoon. With the jet stream mostly being located north and west of here, the chance for widespread rain is slim in the next week to ten days.

Sunshine and southerly breeze push temperatures to around 90 degrees Thursday and Friday afternoon. Last year saw one 90 degree day in May and by the end of this week, we could double the monthly total. 2017 has a whole saw 31 90 degree days in Roanoke. We'll fall back to the 70s over the weekend as a cold front brings rain chances back Saturday and Sunday.
