It then releases the package, winds the winch back up, before ascending back into the sky and returning to where it launched. Christiansburg is the test spot because of the company's close partnership with Virginia Tech and the Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership. "So we'll have a drone party and get it delivered to the house the first day, if it's available." It's the first small business in the U.S. to join a new drone delivery program. Sugar Magnolia will be part of the first-ever commercial drone delivery pilot program, launched by the company, Wing. Sugar Magnolia will offer cards, stationery, popcorn and boxed chocolates, as long as it's under three pounds. Store owners say the hope is to have the first drone delivery by the end of the year.
