The sun finally shined on Roanoke Saturday morning after days of rain, and car enthusiasts took advantage of the clear skies with a drive. Star City Motor Madness organized a car cruise from Roanoke to Botetourt County. Dozens of vintage vehicles filled the Valley View Grand Home Furnishings parking lot before their journey to the Blue Ridge Parkway outside of Buchanan. Some, including Gunther Hoyt, said they could not wait to get out of the house to reunite with their friends. We found out last week, and everybody shined up the cars, got them gassed up, and got ready to go.The car enthusiasts also used the cruise to raise money for the Virginia Museum of Transportation.

The annual Star City Motor Madness hosted more than 300 antique to hot rod cars this afternoon. The festivities continued Saturday evening with a big outdoor party with food trucks, live bands and a beer garden. Proceeds go to the Virginia Museum of Transportation and other non-profits.

It's hard to think of summer in Roanoke without thinking Star City Motor Madness. But it came back as a way to fund a new idea at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, an auto gallery to showcase museum worthy cars. "Keep the muscle car going, and people just getting out and socializing that's the biggest thing we have to keep going," Walker said. Star City Motor Madness continues with a car show in downtown Roanoke Saturday on Jefferson Street and then an after party at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
