It’s about this time every year where we look for Saharan dust to make its several thousand-mile trip across the Atlantic.

ABBarometer: A weather instrument that measures air pressure. Bombogenesis/bomb cyclone: When the pressure in the center of a storm system drops at least 24 millibars in 24 hours. High pressure: A type of weather system that results in sinking air. This separates cold air to the north from warm air to the south. Wind Chill: A measure of how the air feels when factoring cold air and gusty wind.

ROANOKE, Va. – Saturday’s sunset was a huge, and I mean HUGE, letdown for many of us. The dust was there, but so was a wall of clouds. You spend a whole week forecasting dust. For most of the area, Wednesday will feel quite pleasant as dew points hover in the mid to upper 50s. High pressure near Florida will direct the wind out of the west and down the mountains. Upper air pattern this weekendThis same high pressure, with clockwise wind around it, will direct a plume of Saharan dust into the region by late Saturday and Sunday. If it were to storm near you, a portion of dust could actually be brought down to the surface within the raindrops.

ROANOKE, Va. The last few weeks have been relatively quiet in the Atlantic Basin, but now Dolly has emerged in the North Atlantic. This storm has yawned, stretched and tried to come to life. Barely gettin by, the atmosphere is all takin and no givin to this storm. While its briefly a tropical storm, its expected to weaken as it moves away from U.S. soil. With the hype thats going around, its enough to make you crazy if you let it.
