The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority is experiencing a setback for thousands of people waiting for Section 8 housing because it said its housing choice voucher program is closed.

For just this week, if you need housing assistance, you can apply for the waitlist at the Villages at Lincoln Community in Roanoke City.

Roanoke leaders are looking to move forward with affordable housing.

A local nonprofit is spreading a little holiday cheer by providing meals to those in need.

ROANOKE, Va – More than 100,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been distributed to people across the Roanoke Valley. The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are making a big push to vaccine people over 65 or those with underlying conditions. Staff at the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority know that some of their residents have a hard time making it to traditional vaccine clinics, so they brought shots to them. “You still don’t know who’s out there that has COVID Even though they may have had a COVID shot,” Schultz said. The housing redevelopment hopes to host more clinics as the vaccine becomes more available.

ROANOKE, Va. – Hundreds of people in need in Roanoke received a free meal on Tuesday. FarmBurguesa and the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority teamed up to deliver 250 hamburger meals to residents in elderly and disabled housing sites. “It’s always important to give back to the community. So the community feeds us, we feed our community,” said Kat Pascal, co-owner of FarmBurguesa. FarmBurguesa received a $10,000 donation to make this possible as part of a food insecurity initiative, which supports independent restaurants while delivering meals to people in the community.

The Woody family dropped off a bundle of fully-loaded diaper bags at the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority on Friday. The bags will go to parents living in public housing. That’s all I can ever do, all a parent can ever do, is stay strong.”Thursday would have been Amarah’s fourth birthday. Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority executive director David Bustamante said the diaper bags are needed among these communities.
