Around 4 p.m. Monday, the Alleghany County Sheriffs Office received a tip that an Alleghany High School student currently attending the Rivermont School in Covington had created a "hit list" of students and employees to harm. The list also contained the names of employees of the Rivermont School, an Alleghany County Sheriffs Office deputy and members of the suspects family, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Centra Health opened its second Rivermont School in Roanoke. The new school is at the old Piggly Wiggly grocery store along Riverland Road. It's designed for kids on the autism spectrum and with other developmental disabilities. Rivermont also helps students with job skill training and life skills, like making their bed or doing laundry.
