On Sunday, at 12:20 p.m., authorities in Henry County received a 911 call that a vehicle had been found over a steep embankment in the 2900 block of Chestnut Knob Road in Ridgeway, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. This is the same vehicle that Jeneen Lavita Valentine was driving at the time of her disappearance in July. Late last month, the Sheriff’s Office updated the case, to say that investigators have searched Valentine’s home, the surrounding area and nearby roads on both on the ground and via drone for any evidence related to her disappearance. Inside the Toyota, authorities found human remains, which were taken to the medical examiner’s office for identification and an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Authorities say the crash happened around 12:20 p.m. on Route 58 two miles east of Route 620. According to state police, Ronald Elliott of Ridgeway was going west on Route 58 on a 2004 Harley Davidson when the motorcycle crossed the center line and hit a 2018 Nissan Titan. Police say Elliott was wearing a helmet and died at the scene. Authorities say the driver of the Nissan, Michael Hubbard, 76, of Meadows of Dan, was wearing his seatbelt and was not hurt in the crash.

The speedway hosted an Independence Day celebration, which attracted thousands of people from around Southside Virginia. The celebration featured free carnival rides, two musical performances and fireworks when the sun went down. "It's an honor to celebrate our nation's independence and have this celebration with everyone in Henry County coming out to the speedway," Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell said. The celebration has been a Fourth of July tradition for the speedway for more than 20 years, and Campbell says he is not going to stop the tradition any time soon.
