A group of 32 students from the United States have been selected to attend the University of Oxford as part of the prestigious Rhodes scholar program in the coming year.

WSLS 10 chats with Tahri Phillips who is one of 32 scholars chosen to begin graduate studies next fall. The Rhodes Trust announced Nov. 13 that Phillips, 20, of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania, to begin at the University of Oxford in England. The scholarship, which averages approximately $75,000 per year, and up to as much as $250,000, fully funds two to four years of study at Oxford.

He is planning on a two-year degree program in comparative social policy and a career in government or the nonprofit sector. Shera Avi-Yonah, a 22-year-old Harvard University student, said she found out about her win Saturday night while she was sitting in her parents' basement in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The University of California, Santa Cruz was also represented on the list of Rhodes Scholars for the first time. Hattie Seten, a senior at South Dakota State University, was the first Rhodes Scholar from her university in 68 years.
